Change is hard. Really hard. The old order was hard enough without throwing in back to back disasters of biblical proportions. The planet appears to be dripping with extreme: poverty, violence, racism, and  hunger – just to name a few.

So How Does One Thrive In The Current Socio-Economic State Of Affairs?

So glad you asked.

LEADING THE CHARGE

Have you ever pondered simple ways to solve these solutions? Can you think a little harder? You’re not alone. You’ve just self-discovered the perfect undeserved niche-market that could use your services.

Congratulations on Step No. 1!

Decide today that I will feed the homeless in my community; I will open a recreational center in my neighborhood. I will take a child by the hand and teach them something. I will start the non-profit organization. I will finally go for that application to start my small business.  I will start that dream I’ve had since childhood.

BECOMING THE CHANGE

Negativity has to be met with a stronger force of positivity in order to bring about change.

“Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.”

-Leo Tolstoy

Enough said.

“ACTUALLY” IMAGINING FUTURE SOLUTIONS

Yes. Old school imagination station, no getting around this one. You have to see your solution working before one breathe life into it. Part of being the change requires the ability picture what you think a future with solved community problems would look like.

Things like poverty, substance abuse and even gang violence arise from enormously unmet needs inside our communities. Add to this the pressure of racism and historical trauma and we have communities full of people with a high number of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES).

An easy way to get involved is partnering up with local courts to establish reentry programs that assist those reentering society after incarceration. Start a food pantry, a community youth group or connect with law enforcement as a change agent as one local activist did. Long story short, it’s up to us to change the harsh worldly circumstances we deal with daily. In order to do that we always have to start with ourselves.

Examine the blocks that may keep you from facing and focusing on what you can do to change your own world. Besides, whether or not you believe making positive change is your responsibility, you’ll still have to live with the tough consequences of inaction. So, be the change you wish to see in the world and great things are bound to happen.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
