March 7, 2018-Fulton County District 5 Commissioner Marvin S. Arrington, Jr. and Friends Of Wolf Creek in association with Opus Cultural
Lifestyle Magazine presents the 2nd Annual Write to Rise Young Writer’s Bootcamp and Competition (W2R).

The invitation is open to all Middle and High school students attending any school in Fulton County. The project consist of a writer’s bootcamp, open to 50 participants on a first come first serve basis, followed by a writer’s competition that will award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. The mission of W2R is to provide the encouragement, resources, training, and inspiration young writers need to stimulate their imaginations and challenge their potential. This valuable opportunity will foster the development of the participants’ enthusiasm for, and expertise in their literary works, and to provide a platform to celebrate their writing successes.

The workshop: Young writers are invited to participate in an empowering 5-session bootcamp/workshop. The workshop is supported by authors, writers and industry professionals who will help guide participants through a comprehensive preparation program that builds personal and professional development as a writer.

Participants will automatically be entered into the W2R Competition.

The competition: Young aspiring writers have a platform to spread their wings
by offering them the opportunity to showcase their literacy skills and passion for writing. The writers’ work will be juried by luminaries with education, and publishing backgrounds. Panelists look for works that best exemplify originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a clear personal voice or vision. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will receive cash scholarships and other prizes, and have their work published in Opus Cultural Lifestyle Magazine and other participating publications.

COMPETITION ELIGIBILITY: Submissions must be previously unpublished. Entries
may include: Short stories, poetry, essays/literary criticism/analysis, journalism, academic/research reports, short scripts/personal narratives & any other original student writing.

  • Dissemination of Invitation (March -May 2018)
  • Workshop Sessions 5 weeks, Saturdays 10a-3p (June 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, 2018 )
  • Competition Submission Opening-Deadline (June 2nd-July 15th, 2018)
  • Award Event (TBD-August 2018):  A community event will be held to announce the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners.
